I have been thinking about that too. It seems that ''vocaloid'' is somekind of system, a singing synthesizer application, and you can synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody. And the characters like Hatsune Miku represent that system.
And about this Im not sure, but I think there are many characters and everyone has a different voice.
Now Im more intrested in vocaloids too, and I heard you can download a fanmade vocaloid system somewhere, but ofc its not that good as a real one

Umm well there is no vocaloid anime or manga :,,D As I said, its singing synthesizer, almost all pics what u can find are fanmade. Ofc there is doujinshis what you can read, but they are all fan made too.

Yes, this is what it is. A music program. You write the songs, they sing them. Most of the graphics you see of the characters are fan made. There is actually a Wikipedia article about it too. When in doubt, Google. *Giggle*
